Get trivia night on your TVs

AllSource Trivia runs entirely in a web browser — three screens working together: the TV view for the room, the host view on your phone or laptop, and each team's phone. Here's exactly what you need and how to set it up.

How it works

TV screen

Big display for the whole bar. Shows the question, timer, correct answer, and leaderboard between rounds.

Host controls

Your phone, tablet, or laptop. Launch the game, run rounds, override scores, or let auto-run do everything.

Player phones

Each team scans the QR code (or types the 4-character code) and picks answers on their own phone.

Which TVs and devices work

The TV view needs a real modern web browser. Anything with Chrome, Edge, Safari, or Firefox works. Roku is the main one that doesn't.

Works out of the box

Any laptop or desktop

Open the TV view in Chrome/Edge/Safari/Firefox and hit F11 for fullscreen. Plug into the TV via HDMI.

Sony Bravia (Google TV / Android TV)

Install Chrome from the Play Store on the TV. This is what most of our bars use.

Amazon Fire TV / Fire Stick

Install the Silk Browser (built by Amazon, full Chromium). ~$30 stick, plug into any HDMI port.

Google Chromecast with Google TV

Install Chrome or TV Bro from the Play Store.

Apple TV

Install a Safari-based browser like ' Browser' or 'Web for Apple TV'.

Samsung / LG smart TVs (recent)

Most 2020+ Samsung Tizen and LG webOS TVs include a working web browser. Look for the Internet or Web Browser app.

Doesn't work directly

Roku TVs and Roku sticks

Roku OS has no official web browser. The unofficial 'Web Browser X' channels can't run modern web apps and will show a blank screen. Use one of the workarounds below.

Very old smart TVs (pre-2018)

Some older Samsung/LG browsers are too outdated. Test first — if it's slow or blank, use a Fire Stick.

Running a Roku TV? Read this.

Roku doesn't have a real browser, so the trivia TV view won't load on it directly. Any one of these three fixes works — pick whichever is easiest.

Option 1 — Add a streaming stick (best, ~$30)

Plug an Amazon Fire TV Stick or Chromecast with Google TV into a spare HDMI port on the Roku TV. On trivia nights, switch the TV input to the stick. Install Silk Browser (Fire TV) or Chrome (Chromecast) and open your TV view URL. This is what we recommend — set it up once, done forever.

Option 2 — Screen mirror from a phone or laptop

Roku supports screen mirroring from Windows laptops and Android phones. On the Roku: Settings → System → Screen mirroring → set to Prompt or Always allow. Then open the TV view in Chrome on your laptop, press F11 for fullscreen, and cast/mirror to the Roku. Free, works tonight, but the mirroring device has to stay awake and connected.

Option 3 — HDMI cable from a laptop

Zero setup: plug a laptop into the Roku TV's HDMI port with a cable, switch to that input, and run the TV view in fullscreen Chrome. Ties up a laptop for the night but always works.

Trivia night walkthrough

Set up your bar profile

In the dashboard, add your bar name and upload your logo. This is what players see when they join and what appears on the TV lobby screen.

Build a game

Pick one category for a quick round, or stack multiple categories for a full trivia night. Each category is 5+ questions. Most bars run 4–6 rounds (about 60–75 minutes).

Open the TV view

On the TV device, open allsourcetrivia.com/tv/YOURCODE (the 4-character game code). Press F11 for fullscreen on a browser, or use the browser's fullscreen option on a TV device.

Players join

Point at the QR code on screen, or tell the room to go to allsourcetrivia.com/play and enter the 4-character code. Each team picks one phone and enters a team name.

Run the game

Hit Launch when everyone's in. Auto-run advances questions and reveals answers automatically. You can pause, extend the timer, skip a question, or manually override scores from your host controls at any time.

Final leaderboard

After the last round, the TV shows the winner podium. Announce prizes, and the results stay on screen for photos.

Wi-Fi and network tips

• Guest Wi-Fi is fine — the app is lightweight. But if your guest network blocks devices from reaching the internet after a portal, players won't be able to submit answers. Test it once.
• Put the TV on the same-or-better network as customers, not on a cellular hotspot that could drop.
• Cellular data works for players who can't get on Wi-Fi — the app uses very little data (a few KB per question).
• If the TV screen freezes, just refresh the browser. The game state lives on our servers, so you won't lose anything.

Troubleshooting

TV screen is blank or won't load

You're likely on a Roku TV or an unsupported browser. See the Roku workarounds above, or try opening the URL on your phone first to confirm the game code is correct.

Players say "code not found"

Game codes are 4 characters and case-insensitive. Double-check the code on the TV — sometimes O/0 or I/1 get mixed up. If a game has ended, its code stops working.

A team's phone got stuck on "answer submitted"

They already answered this question — the app locks in one answer per team per question. Their score will update at the reveal.

Sound isn't playing on the TV

Tap the speaker icon in the top-right of the TV view once — most browsers block autoplay audio until you interact with the page. Then it plays for the rest of the game.

TV view is cut off on the sides

Press F11 (or your TV browser's fullscreen). If it's still cut off, check the TV's picture settings for "Just Scan" or "1:1 pixel mapping" to disable overscan.
